Courier Express Accepts Delivery of Mitel IP Communications Solution

Courier Company Benefits from Improved Intra-Office Communications, Network Efficiency and Business Effectiveness

Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A., November 29, 2005 – Mitel®, a leading provider of IP communications solutions, today announced that Courier Express, one of the largest courier companies in the Southeastern United States, has chosen an advanced IP Communications solution by Mitel. Combined with a network from ProCurve Networking by HP, the Mitel 3300 IP Communications Platform (ICP) enables Courier Express to achieve a single, seamless business operation bridging six regional offices and supporting home-based sales staff.

At the core of the network is the 3300 ICP with embedded voicemail, standard unified messaging and automated call distribution (ACD). To ensure resiliency, the 3300 also operates as a remote survivable gateway, a cost-effective voice and data network that provides branch office users with the same access to advanced communications features as their colleagues in the Marietta, Georgia headquarters. The system’s advanced Mitel Teleworker Solution also provides remote employees seamless access to the full features and functionality of the corporate communications network from home. In addition, staff can use the paging feature on the teleworker phone to page employees in the office.

“Each of our locations previously had a separate standalone phone system,” said Jim Messerly, President, Courier Express. “Those systems didn’t allow us to function well as a multi-site operation. The Mitel IP solution gives us the ability to work as if we were in a single location and has significantly improved our business effectiveness.”

To improve the 24x7 needs of its customers, Courier Express selected the Mitel Contact Center Solution to enable each office to handle incoming customer calls during the day and then automatically transfer calls to headquarters at night.

“With its new investment, Courier Express can now operate as one unified operation rather than as multiple regional operators,” said Paul Butcher, Chief Operating Officer, Mitel. “The Mitel solution allows Courier Express to boast intra-office communication, enhance customer service practices and improve operational efficiencies while reducing costs and setting the foundation for the future deployment of advanced IP applications.”

The Mitel solution was selected over other vendors because of its ease of use as well as its ability to incorporate new applications and scale as the business expands. In the future Courier Express will leverage its investment in the 3300 ICP by integrating Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 with Mitel’s Applications & Services Gateway. Combined, the solution seamlessly integrates IP voice and user/device presence capabilities into the powerful real-time collaboration that Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 brings to software suites such as Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint).

Mitel completed the project with its solution provider, United Technology Group, a Professional Services Organization and Value Added Reseller (VAR) providing solutions for the IT needs of today’s Small to Medium Enterprises. For more information visit www.utgsolutions.com.
